Now for a band called Girl Band there is not a single girl in the group. I want to call these guys Noise Punk as the guitarists make some great sounds/distortion with their guitars throughout the song and Vocalist Dara Kiely can be both bored and completely out of control while delivering his lyrics.
Jamie XX - Loud Places
Jamie Smith (Jamie XX) is a music producer/remixer who is both a part of the band The XX as well as a solo artist. Loud Places and Gosh were both released on the same day as his announcement of his debut album In Colour. Music producers look at music in a very interesting way that you can definitely see when they make their own music. They are perfectionists and anything they create themselves has to be better then that. Their music has a very deeply constructed feel to it where you know they have looked each of their songs over every which way on a micro scale all the way up to a macro scale making sure it meets their perfectionist taste. While I really like Loud Places I feel like Gosh is more relevant to the point I'm trying to make.
A. R. Habershon & C. H. Gabriel - Will the Circle Be Unbroken
This Christian Hymn was written in 1907 by Ada R. Habershon and composed by Charles H. Gabriel. This version was song by Courtnee Draper with Guitar by Troy Baker. This version was recorded for the video game Bioshock Infinite (yes i have had this game on the brain lately). Troy Baker and Courtnee Draper are also the voice actors of the two main characters. There are many other great people who have sang this hymn each giving it their own personal emotion that makes it special.
The Chordettes - Mr. Sandman
I couldn't bring up Barbershop harmonies/A Cappella without bringing up Mr. Sandman! The Chordettes were a wonderful group of women who sang some other familiar songs like Lollipop, Lonely Lips, and Born To Be With You.
A Mighty Wind - God Only Knows (Beach Boys Cover)
Nothing Like a Barbershop Quartet to liven up your day. A Mighty Wind is a Barbershop Quartet that takes songs and turn them into a barbershop harmony. A Mighty Wind also makes a nice appearance in the video game Bioshock Infinite singing a barbershop harmony of "God Only Knows" originally by the Beach Boys.
Azealia Banks - Chasing Time
Azealia Banks is a very interesting artist with a very unforgiving personality. She is bold, she is aggressive, and she doesn't care if you take it or leave it. This is reflected in her music and she sings about what she wants and doesn't care about stepping over the social norms, these songs are her norms and that is what matters to her. Her music can be crud and offensive to some people so this is your warning if you are sensitive to that. I did choose her song Chasing time as it would probably pass as a pg rating. I would then recommend listening to "212" and then "heavy metal and reflective"
The Barberettes - Be My Baby (Ronettes Cover)
The Barberettes are a South Korean doo-wop female trio who reproduce the sound of 50's and 60's music through covers and their own original music.
Shamir - On The Regular
Shamir sings in a countertenor voice (google it) which I think brings a lot to his music and his style which I will call a R&B pop dance mix. Life & Soul has said that Shamir is "a dynamic young artist who successfully adopts the craft of his musical heroes Michael Jackson and Prince." While there are a many other artist I could compare him too I to like that description. I hope to see Shamir keep producing music for the next few decades and see him keep his music fresh, entertaining, and well crafted.
Lolawolf - Calm Down
Lolawolf is a experimental R&B trio lead by Zoë Kravitz (yes daughter of Lenny Kravitz). I love what she is bringing to the table for R&B and in her song Calm Down you can pick out a lot of the influences from old R&B. I'm hoping that we see more from her in the future.
NEEDS - We Forgot The Records To Our Record Release Show
Ok, time for a change up in music. Todays song of the day is by NEEDS a Canadian punk band that seems to have a nice sense of humor which can be heard in their song We Forgot The Records To Out Record Release Show.
HAIM - The Wire
I always think it is interesting when bands are made up of siblings or family members in general. HAIM is a pop/soft rock band consisting of three sisters names Alana, Danielle, and Este Haim, along with drummer Dash Hutton. So I am generally making this song of the day just for you to reflect on your siblings and think how you would go singing in a band together. I love my siblings but we I don't think we could work together in a musical setting.
Panama Wedding - Feels Like Summer
It's Record Store Day!!!!!! Get out there and get some great music at your local music store. Feels Like Summer is going to be my montage music when I head out today to grab myself a few records.
Lord Huron - Fool For Love
I ordered Lord Huron's latest album Strange Trails and I can't wait to listen to it in it's entirety. Lord Huron is an american folk band lead by Ben Schneider who started the band on his own and released the bands first few EPs on his own all while slowly gathering members to play at live shows. Strange Trails is the bands second full length album and Fool For Love was the first song that I heard by them and that along makes it song of the day.
Mr Little Jean - Oh Sailor
Monica Birkenes A.K.A Mr Little Jean is a Norwegian pop singer with a sweet voice and a great instrumental backing that drives home her songs.
Colony House - Silhouettes
I don't know if it is how much I have heard this song lately but I keep thinking that I put this as song of the day already. So whether or not I have here it is Colony House's Silhouettes. They call themselves a rock and roll band with stripped down instruments but in general are another indie rock band that sound happy to just be playing music.
Song of The Day
Some semi random song I enjoy will be posted here once a day with a small description of the song and or band.
