Lets start our Fridays of with something a little out of control and unrefined but crazy enough to get your blood pumping. being only 1:48 it is a perfect start to your playlist.
Alex Bleeker & The Freaks - Sealong Hair
I love Alex Bleeker & The Freaks' new album Country Agenda. I feel very nostalgic when listening to it because my father would play stuff like this on family road trips so songs like Sealong Hair just zen me out and it bring me into a place full of bliss.
YACHT - I Though The Future Would Be Cooler
A chill beat from YACHT's latest album "I Though The Future Would Be Cooler"
Neon Indian - Slumlord
Neon Indian has deffinitely grown on me and his latest album Vega Intl. Night School is to me his best peice of work. It sticks with me and draws me into the groove. Slumloard is a great example of this.
Coheed and Cambria - Here to Mars
So Coheed and Cambria is a band I have not listened to since Volume two of Good Apollo. From this jump I definitely hear a difference in their music but something that could have easily have taken place over the last few albums. While it isn't anything drastic I feel like they have cleaned up their sound a bit but I think it might have lost some of it's heart in doing this and feels too "perfect" sounding. Either way Coheed and Cambria have made a surprisingly enjoyable album and I love that feeling where you don't know if you are going to get a heavy or lightier sounding song.
Beach House - She's So Lovely
This is Beach House's second album of the year with Depressed Cherry coming out in August.
David Bowie - Blackstar
This is the first time in over two decades that Bowie has made a song specifically for a T.V. show or movie. It may not be the whole song but it is still a haunting listen for the whole 45 seconds that are played.
Cat Seat Headrest - Times to Die
For a track that started out as a song giving a middle finger to their old label got rewritten enough to keep the initial message hidden except for one verse. Since this is a lyrical video I will leave it for you guys to find.
Kozoro, Zeni & Koo Read - In Your Eyes
Just a nice little collaborated track for your Monday.
Vance Joy - Riptide
Vance Joy is an Indie pop/folk artist from Australia that I actually never listened to too much until the Austin City Limits Festival. I heard his single Fire and the Flood but during his performance I really enjoyed his lyrics and especially how the song Riptide is portrayed. I do actually remember hearing Riptide when it first came out but I think I was already drowning in the "Riptide" of indie folk music and shrugged him off at time.
Strand of Oaks - Goshen '97
I did Strand Of Oaks for song of the day back in February with JM but after watching him in Austin City Limits festival I couldn't bring him back and post a video of him doing a live performance and NPR Music has some great videos of artists doing live performances called Tiny Desk Concert. The first track of this video is Goshen '97 followed by Plymouth and then JM.
Billy Changer - Island Fever
Billy Changer is a four piece band from Southern California that defines themselves as Art Punk or Mutant Pop. Their track Island Fever definitely gives me that feeling with Bill's I don't give a shit vocals, and the electric guitar plucking which definitely gives off a mutation between pop and punk. Having only listened to a few other of their tracks at the time of this I almost want to say that the pop influence comes more from a Beach Boys era then anything more recent which I think actually makes them very much worth mentioning and putting them up for song of the day.
Pity Sex - What Might Soothe You?
Now initially with a name like Pity Sex I was not expecting to take these guys seriously but this indie rock band has some nice shoegazing and emo sounds that make them just moody and self-reflecting enough to make them feel like something special.
Protomartyr - Pontiac 87
This Post-Punk band of four formed in Detroit in 2008 with their last album "Under Color Of Official Right" getting a lot of good reviews from critics. Now with The Agent Intellect coming out in November it will be interesting to see how things work out for them. I very much enjoyed the album from start to finish and found it a little difficult to pick one for song of they day so you are getting Pontiac 87.
Song of The Day
Some semi random song I enjoy will be posted here once a day with a small description of the song and or band.
